Scottish mezzo-soprano Katherine Aitken is a graduate of the Royal College of Music and Royal Academy of Music, London. After completing her formal education, Katherine was a member of the Studio Opéra de Lyon, and is a Samling Artist.

Katherine's recent operatic highlights include Scottish Opera's Autumn Highlight's Tour, Dorabella (Cosi Fan Tutte) and Carmen (Carmen) for Diva Opera; The Woman (The Soldier’s Return) for Opera Sunderland; and Charles Grey (Georgiana) for Buxton Opera Festival. For Opéra de Lyon, she has sung the roles of Witness 2/Singer 2/Woman 2 (Lessons in Love and Violence), Tisbe (La Cenerentola) and Pippetto (Viva la Mamma!) as well as Pippetto for Grand Théâtre de Genève, Tisbe for the Edinburgh International Festival and Cherubino (The Marriage of Figaro) for English Touring Opera. She premiered the role of Beauty, in Beauty and the Seven Beasts with The Opera Story, a role written for her, and performed the UK premiere of Is A Rose by Caroline Shaw with the Royal Northern Sinfonia as well as concerts with the Brandenburg Choral Festival, Southern Cathedrals Festival and Opéra de Lyon.

A keen educator with a passion for supporting young voices, Katherine is Head of Voice at St Mary's Music School in Edinburgh and is a masterclass leader for the Samling Academy.
